Position Description

In this role you will perform Carpentry and Pile Buck maintenance and project duties for Marine Maintenance at the Port of Seattle maritime facilities in a safe and efficient manner.

• You will complete a wide variety of tasks, from dock repair to detailed interior trim work.
• You will perform all Carpentry duties as established by jurisdiction, which includes formwork, framing, and must be able to perform finish work.
• You will troubleshoot, repair, and replace door assemblies including hardware.
• You will perform installation and repair of gypsum wallboard and acoustical ceilings.
• You will be working in a shop setting or may be in the field at one of the Port's Maritime properties.
• You will operate and perform related tasks in and around the water at various Port properties.
• You may be assigned other duties as needed.

Who you are:

• Experienced - You completed an approved carpenter apprenticeship program or equivalent and you have hand tools established/required by all union carpenters.
• Educated - You possess a High School Diploma or GED.
• Desired - We hope you have demonstrated experience in cabinetry work, laminate work, door hardware systems, create and manage key and core systems working within the Port of Seattle lock and security systems.
• Knowledgeable - You are able to operate shop and portable power tools and able to perform finish work. You are proficient with commercial door hardware installation and repair. You are proficient in working from prints, specifications and details and have knowledge of safety codes, regulations, and requirements.
• Collaborative - You are able to work as part of a team and partner with staff to achieve results.
• Customer Service Minded - You have strong customer service and time management skills.

What else you need to know:

• Driver's License - You will need a valid Washington State Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.
• Work Schedule - Your normal work schedule will be a full time, 4x10-hour shifts (40 hours per week), Tuesday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM. You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies.
• Work Environment - Work varies from interiors of office space to exterior of buildings to on and under piers. You will generally work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. You may be exposed to areas of high noise, various hazardous materials, work at heights and/or in confined spaces. You must be able to climb ladders and work at heights from man lifts and scaffolds.
• Washington State Residency Requirement - Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
• Overtime Eligible - You are eligible for overtime pay in this role.
• Safety Requirements - You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
• Security Requirements - As the successful candidate, you must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first three months of employment.
• Union Representation - This position is represented by the Western States Regional Council of Carpenters.
