PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESHiring salary: $31.87 - $42.62 Hourly
Signing Bonus: New employees are eligible for a $5,000 bonus; with $2,500 paid on the first payroll, and $2,500 paid upon completion of six (6) month introductory period from hire date.The deadline to submit applications is February 14, 2025. Department InformationThe City of Aurora Building Division is a division of Development Services. The Building Division has three primary areas. The Permit Center Building Plans Review and Building Inspections. Our Staff is dedicated to providing our customers with exceptional project services in the areas of building plan review, permits, and
inspections. Our goal is to ensure safe buildings and properties for our citizens through a collaborative working relationship with our construction partners.
Salary Information:Salaries will be commensurate with relevant and required certifications.One Certification: $33.55/hour
Two Certifications: $36.90/hour
Three Certifications: $40.59/hour
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES• Performs building inspections to ensure compliance with City code
• Records results of inspections
• Performs related public contact requirements verbally, in writing, by a computer, or over the telephone
• Schedules and coordinates routes and re-inspection
• Attends meetings and confers with the public
• Investigate complaints and variance issues
• Performs additional duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONSEducation:• High School Diploma or GED
Experience:• The desired Building Inspector would have experience in a certified area of inspection work and associated trade, as well as experience in construction or area of certification
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Knowledge:• Knowledge of design, construction, and function of plumbing, electrical, mechanical, structural, fire sprinkler, fire alarm, and life safety
• Municipal building codes and enforcement
Abilities:• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens
• Handle stressful situations with tact and diplomacy
• Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Independently read and interpret construction documents, and maps in relation to the tasks of the job
Skills:• Skill in providing technical knowledge in a specialized construction trade area
• Communicate verbally and in writing with building contractors, landowners, developers, and the general public regarding building inspections
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES:Applicants must have at a minimum (1) of the following certifications:
• Colorado Journeyman or Master Electrician's License
• ICC Commercial Building Inspector
• ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector
• ICC Commercial & Residential Plumbing Inspector
• State of Colorado Licensed Plumber
• Colorado State Fire Suppression Certification
• ICC Fire Code I&II and ability to obtain Colorado state certification
• Candidates must acquire two additional certifications for a total of three certifications within the first year of employment
Physical Demands:• Light physical work requiring the ability to lift 20 pounds
• Occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing
• Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate office equipment and computer
• Clear vision to read and interpret reports, documents, and other written materials
• Frequent speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and residents
• Climbing ladders/scaffolding and accessing attics and crawlspaces
Work Environment:• Exposed to all types of weather conditions to include dust, wind, rain, hot/cold, etc.
Equipment Used:• Uses standard office equipment including a personal computer, calculator, architectural and engineering scales, fax/copy machines, and zoning and code books.
• This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment and city assigned vehicle.
Essential Personnel: When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
